In 2007 I raced a Suzuki RG 150 at the age of 13 years at the N.Z. Nationals and finished second overall which was way past my expectations but then set my benchmark for the future.
I then with my parents support and finance was given an amazing opportunity to race in Australia in the MRRDA Series in five different tracks where I finished 5th Overall with best placing 3rd in Phillip Island.
The knowledge and experience I gained from this was great and I also made a lot of friends. When I arrived back in New Zealand in October 2007 I then prepared myself for the N.Z. Nationals for 2008. I was offered a ride on a Honda RS125 with the Steve Ward Team. I had to get a special dispensation from MNZ for this as I was only 14 and you had to be 15. I was granted this with Steve Ward being my Mentor as he is a N.Z. 125gp champion for many years. This was just fantastic as I rode my Suzuki RG150 as well as the 125.
Again finished 2nd overall on the 150 and also won the N.Z. G.P. title on the 150.I also had great results on the 125gp bike with a 6th overall with best placing at Teretonga Raceway with two firsts and a second with winning this round and also being the youngest ever in New Zealand to do this. I was stoked with my results. Also in this same year I was accepted to trial out for the Red bull Rookies Motor GP team in Italy. There was over a thousand entries and one hundred and fifty selected from all over the world with me being one of those. Unfortunately I didn’t get through, but, did get down to the final twenty but they only needed twelve. The letter that was sent to me was that I was too tall and that I should consider 600’s. To ride a 600 you have to be 15 years old and at that time I was only 14. I’m now 15 and am so looking forward to riding a 600. I have now got myself a part-time job to help pay for some of my racing. I’m working at Budget Motorcycle Spares after school and in the holidays.
